Walk + Lab, Thursday 29-06

🕑 10.00 – 17.00

A shared/disputed cartography of Brussels’ hypercentre

🚩 walk (departure at Beurs/Bourse) – lab: De Markten (to be confirmed)
Hosts: BRAL & ARAU
💬 NL/FR

During a walk and an atelier in the city centre, in and around the piétonnier, we will analyse and discuss a map that several students and experts created of the hypercentre. We want to reflect on the evolution and the future of commerce and cultural institutions in this zone. The privatization of space, the ‘hambergerisation’ phenomenon and cultural spaces in the city centre are among the themes that will guide us. The result will be shared/disputed cartography which will serve as a base for further discussions with politicians and local stakeholders.

Attention, there is a changing of schedule for that activity that will take place at 14.00 until 17.00. We will start with a one-hour walk. During this guided tour in the streets of Brussels city center, participants will learn about data collection objects and how they are used today. On the program: discovery of different types of cameras, sensors of all kinds and other more unexpected devices. This walk will open the way for reflection on the use of data in what is sometimes called the “smart city”. At the end of the tour, we will return to the FARI Institute’s Test & Experience Center above Central Station. Here, participants will have the opportunity to discover some of the artificial intelligence projects being developed by universities. After a break, we’ll be making a collective collage to wrap up the day in style. Inspired by the Dadaist method, the group will be invited to unfold the day’s collection of impressions, questions and learning into images in an intuitive way. We can’t wait to discover these visions!
