Molenbeek has advanced to the final round in the competition for the European Capital of Culture 2030. This achievement reflects the incredible energy, creativity, and dedication of everyone involved. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the contributors, partners, civil society, artists, and residents who made this possible. We also congratulate the other successful cities, as well as those who put forth strong bids but did not move forward. Your efforts have been inspiring and are a reminder of the cultural richness across Belgium.
The Real Work Starts Now
This is where things get serious. As exciting as this news is, it’s only the beginning. We have nine months until the final decision, and the next phase will require even greater effort from everyone involved. Even as Molenbeek and Brussels prepare for new city council and government transitions, this project cannot wait. We need to push forward immediately, building on the momentum we’ve already created. There is no time to lose.
Rising to the Challenge
Everyone—artists, organizations, institutions, civil society leaders, and residents—must now step up their game. This is a collective effort, and every voice and contribution will be needed to showcase the very best of Molenbeek. We have proven we are ready for this challenge, but the road ahead will require more collaboration, innovation, and hard work.
Our Bid Book as a Blueprint
The bid book that got us to this stage will serve as the foundation for the next phase. It is not only our roadmap but also the framework within which we will further develop our vision. We will be refining and building on these plans to ensure that Molenbeek’s story and potential are fully realized in the eyes of the international panel.
A Crucial 9 Months Ahead
These next nine months will be decisive for Molenbeek’s future. We are confident in our ability to deliver, but we will need the full support of our civil society, partners, and local governments to succeed. Together, we can ensure that Molenbeek continues to rise as a lighthouse of culture, diversity, and creativity – not just for Brussels, but for Europe and all the Molenbeeks our continent harbors/is home to.
