Read the Manifesto of the Youth Coalition of Molenbeek for Brussels 2030

We, the 100 Brussels youths of the Molenbeek for Brussels 2030 Youth Coalition, have put together this Manifesto based on the questions asked by 1,000 Brussels youths about the future of their city. It is about our dreams, our fears and our hopes.

We are the future of Brussels. We have the will and the ambition to shape our future. This is why we are committed. This is why we organise. This is why we inspire the young people of Brussels to be ready in 2030 to make their city a better city and to turn their lives into better lives. This is what we want. This is what we do.

This manifesto was co-created with 1,000 young people from Brussels. All of them gave us their question to the Brussels of 2030: “Will there be multilingual media in and about Brussels in 2030?”, “Will Brussels make more room for bicycles?”, “Will women still need to raise how unsafe they feel on the streets of Brussels?”, “Will the streets be clean?”, “Will the remnants of the colonial past disappear from public spaces?” and 1,000 other questions.

With these 1,000 questions and the accompanying hopes and fears of the young people of Brussels, we, 100 of them, set to work over three days under the banner of the Molenbeek for Brussels 2030 Youth Coalition. We reviewed the 1,000 questions, clustered them into major challenges, set to work with these challenges, did further research, shared our own ideas and were fuelled by inspirers. In doing so, as a group we arrived at 18 avenues for the future. We are happy to present these avenues in this Manifesto for the Brussels of 2030 and for Molenbeek for Brussels 2030, which is a candidate for the title of European Capital of Culture.

We call on you to join us in lending shape to the Brussels of the future, working in tandem with us, the young people of Brussels!
