Iftar at the church: thank you all for this moment of togetherness and generosity

Over 500 people gathered for an iftar at the church to support the Molenbeek for Brussels 2030 bid

On Sunday 23 March, more than 500 people from all cultural and social backgrounds gathered at the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Molenbeek to share the Ramadan iftar at the church during the Lenten period, the day after Pourim, and on the occasion of the first spring weekend.

An evening of generosity

This initiative, organised by Molenbeek For Brussels 2030 as part of its bid to become European Capital of Culture, in collaboration with numerous Molenbeek associations and citizens, was keen to highlight Sadaka, which is the solidarity and generosity that are part of their DNA.

Volunteers took turns, mums and dads cooked, guests brought delicious food to enjoy, and everyone pitched in to make it an unforgettable evening.

‘These values of solidarity and generosity, which are reflected in the Sadaka spirit found in different cultures, are the core values of this bid, and that’s what we want to show Europe,’ add Fatima Zibouh and Jan Goossens, co-chairs of Molenbeek For Brussels 2030.

A project of generosity, inspiring the future of Europe

Today, more than ever, Molenbeek, Brussels and the whole of Europe need these moments of sharing, which bring us together beyond all our cultural and social differences.

After being shortlisted as a finalist by the European jury, the evening provided an opportunity to mobilise and unite civil society players and artists in support of Molenbeek for Brussels’ bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2030.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this wonderful and unforgettable evening.

Together, let’s make Molenbeek for Brussels the European Capital of Culture in 2030!
