Who should become the first Public Poet Brussels?

Meet the 5 finalists:

Lisette Ma Neza is a poet with a camera. Her artistic practice is a constant attempt to translate herself and others. She transmutes the lives and feelings of the displaced, survivors of “great” violence, of Africans in Europe, of diasporas… of women… of Brussels. This research turns into poetic essays, spoken word, film and theatre.
Jonas Deryckere, born in 1979 in Kortrijk, is a Brussels-based lawyer with strong ties to the Brussels-Capital Region. Working in Brussels since 2003, he co-founded a law firm in 2019. As a passionate writer of poetic prose, including the bilingual collection “Collage,” he discreetly unveils his literary talent. Since September 2022, as a board member of the Vita Brevis foundation, he contributes to Maurice Gilliams’ literary legacy alongside renowned writers. His participation in the Public Poet Brussels competition marks his poetic coming out to the public.
Yousra Llouh, 24, was born in Mortsel and grew up in vibrant Boom, Belgium. She has five sisters and a brother. She studied Political Science and Economics in Ghent. Yousra, now a full-time payroll officer at Partena Professional in Brussels, fell for the city during a federal parliament internship. Since her May 2022 wedding, she resides with her husband in the charming Sint-Agatha-Berchem, overlooking the Basilica. Passionate about travel, discovery, and living wholeheartedly, Yousra embraces the beautiful facets of life with curiosity and openness.
Jan Ducheyne (Ostend – 1970) is a poet, writer, and performer with a passion for audio and remarkable voice acting skills. Also known as Monsieur Le Selecteur, he’s a DJ, presenter, and programmer, but above all, himself. With over two decades of international stage experience, he co-leads Noodzakelijk Kwaad, a unique group merging poetry and music. As part of Individual Friends, a top Brussels formation, Jan is a standout. In 2018, he co-founded Partij Voor De Poëzie, an international poetic party, with Michaël Vandebril and Laurence Vielle. Since 2010, he’s been the driving force and programmer of De Sprekende Ezels in Brussels, a laid-back platform for poetry, music, and humor. Jan Ducheyne is no attic poet; he’s a life chronicler, leaving an indelible mark on collaborations with various institutions and his memorable performances, including a tribute to Ton Lebbink in Paradiso Amsterdam, earning praise for resurrecting Ton’s spirit through poetry.
Slameke X SpeakEasy Spoken Word BXL unites two collectives, offering myriad perspectives. Their collaborations build confidence, empowering them to present Brussels’ Public Poets. As dedicated Brussels natives, they share diverse experiences, echoing ideals and stories on stages across the city. Advocating for equal opportunities, their poetry aims to inspire, motivate, heal, warm, and connect. A dozen idealists strive towards 2030, fostering dialogue and unity. Through words, they bridge gaps, aspiring to transform poetic spaces into platforms for shared understanding and connection in Brussels and beyond.
